Guangzhou's New Children's Park, which opened two years ago, is expected to be tripled in size. Yuexiu District Construction & Urban Utilities Bureau has submitted a proposal to Guangzhou Construction Commission to incorporate a 30,000 square meters of land south of Renji West Road into the park. The land will be included as part of a three-year vegetation cultivation program. Following the expansion, access to the park will no longer be restricted.

The commercial space on the 1st and 2nd basement floors (8,934 and 10,268 square meters, respectively) of the park's tower building are due to be auctioned on June 8, with a reserve price of RMB 70 million having been set for the 20-year lease. According to park administrators, the 1st basement floor and tower will be devoted to the retailing of children's clothes and toys and the provision of food and beverage, and the 2nd basement floor will serve as a car park, but existing recreational facilities will be retained.

Local people hope that the new children's park will follow the example of the old one, which is densely vegetated and contains more than 40 recreational facilities, including a children's reading room, a maze, a restaurant, a toy shop, a bookstore, and distorting mirrors.
